Loftus House in Ireland is a popular tourist attraction due to its reputation as one of the most haunted houses in the world. However, is this reputation based on truth or fiction? Let’s explore some of the stories surrounding this house and find out if it really is as haunted as people say.

The History of Loftus Hall

Loftus House was originally built by Robert Latimer and his wife Elizabeth in 1666. Over time, additional wings were added to the building as well as a magnificent gardens and outbuildings. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Elizabeth died within months of her husband’s death leaving their son Richard as Lord of Loftus Hall. It was during this time that paranormal activity began occurring in the home with reports from servants that they had seen ghostly figures walking through corridors and halls late at night.

In 1833 Richard Loftus died without an heir, leaving his sister Adelaide as Lady of Loftus Hall. During her tenure, she visited many spiritualists who allegedly confirmed her suspicions that her home was indeed haunted by multiple spirits. Despite these claims, Adelaide lived out her days at Loftus Hall until she passed away in 1874. Later on, Mary Ellen Blunden purchased Loftus Hall and kept it until 1913 when she sold it to new owners who renovated parts of the house before turning it into a hotel some years later.

Modern Reports of Activity at Loftus Hall

In recent years, there have been reports of strange sounds coming from within the walls of Loftus Hall, objects moving on their own accord and unexplained shadows appearing at certain times of day or night. Many visitors have reported feeling uneasy upon entering Loftus Hall and some claim they felt an icy chill emanating from certain areas inside the building – particularly near where Anne’s bedroom used to be located.

There are also reports that Anne herself has been seen wandering through the halls, her long dress trailing behind her as she searches for something unknown (or perhaps someone). These reports are enough to make anyone think twice about spending any length of time inside this supposedly haunted house!

Conclusion:  While there is no way to know for sure if Loftus House really is one of the most haunted places in Ireland (or even in all of Europe), there is certainly no shortage of stories and legends associated with it. From strange noises coming from within its walls to a cursed daughter whose spirit still lingers within its halls today, this legendary house will definitely spark your imagination – whether you believe in ghosts or not! If you’re looking for a unique experience while visiting Ireland, then spending some time at Loftus House should definitely be on your list!
